A. Clearing the console at the end of each period: The top task bar serves the purpose of applying functions to the whole room. For example, the lock at the top task bar locks every computer in the room, whereas the lock on the upper right portion of the console screen only controls the group that you’ve set up.
vSo, after each class, GO TO RESTART ON THE OPTIONS PULL-DOWN MENU in order to bring the student computers back to where they were before the class began.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO USE THIS RESTART FUNCTION AFTER EVERY CLASS. A program called “Deep Freeze” has recently been installed to send the student computers back to default mode after every use. This will eliminate any programs the students may have downloaded, as well as any of the infinite bits and pieces of programs that may be unwittingly downloaded because of general internet use. B. Clearing the console at the end of each day: vThe last person in the lab needs to shut down the lab for the day. So, if for some reason, you do not use the lab on a day that you’re scheduled at the end of the day, please go to the lab and shut it down anyway. vOn the day a colleague is absent, IF you know that he/she is scheduled at the end of the day, and you are in there during the preceding period, you can shut it down for the day as well. If not, Anne will check at the end of the day to see if it’s been closed down. vThis shut down procedure involves two steps: the student computer shsut-down procedure to be followed via the top task bar OPTIONS pull-down menu, AND, the restart option from the Start Bar at the lower left corner of the computer screen. This will restart and refresh the teacher console. (This procedure may also be followed whenever the teacher’s console freezes up or acts erratically – just as you would do on any computer.) C. Shutting down the system for the weekend: vFollow steps A & B above each end of the week and before vacations. vIn addition, shut down the red power button at the left side of the teacher’s console desk.
